Summary

Few entrepreneurs can claim to have actually changed the way we live, but Ray Kroc is one of them。 His revolutions in food service automation, franchising, shared national training and advertising have earned him a place beside the men who founded not merely businesses but entire new industries。

But even more interesting than Ray Kroc the business legend is Ray Kroc the man。 Not your typical self-made tycoon, Kroc was 52 when he met the McDonald brothers and opened his first franchise。

Now meet Ray Kroc, the man behind the business legend, in his own words。 Irrepressible enthusiast, perceptive people-watcher, and born storyteller, he will fascinate and inspire you。 You'll never forget Ray Kroc。

A great reminder that as long as you put your heart into it, keep your eyes open for opportunities, you can always building something great no matter what's your age。 A great reminder that as long as you put your heart into it, keep your eyes open for opportunities, you can always building something great no matter what's your age。 。。。more

Great founding story but got kind of into the weeds of business stats in middle and end。

After enjoying The Founder, it made sense to visit the source material。 Ray Kroc is certainly an interesting man, a born salesman, and his recounting of the McDonald's story is fascinating, particularly as it occurred in his fifties and wasn't solely his idea。 If you like business biographies, this is an excellent one, and even provides some interesting facts on how certain menu items were created。 A bit short but a solid book all the same。 After enjoying The Founder, it made sense to visit the source material。 Ray Kroc is certainly an interesting man, a born salesman, and his recounting of the McDonald's story is fascinating, particularly as it occurred in his fifties and wasn't solely his idea。 If you like business biographies, this is an excellent one, and even provides some interesting facts on how certain menu items were created。 A bit short but a solid book all the same。 。。。more

My 1st ever job, was at McDonald's。 And this was the reason it draw me to this book。But after I finished this book, I am much more appreciated of what McD has done to the world。 Ray's kindness, hard-working spirit, and entrepreneurship meant so much to a human being。 I am more pround than ever, that I had the chance to work at McD as my 1st job。Some quotes that I just love!"Hell, if I listened to the computers and did what they proposed with McD, I'd have a store with a row of vending machines i My 1st ever job, was at McDonald's。 And this was the reason it draw me to this book。But after I finished this book, I am much more appreciated of what McD has done to the world。 Ray's kindness, hard-working spirit, and entrepreneurship meant so much to a human being。 I am more pround than ever, that I had the chance to work at McD as my 1st job。Some quotes that I just love!"Hell, if I listened to the computers and did what they proposed with McD, I'd have a store with a row of vending machines in it 。。。 McD is a people business, and the smile on that counter girl's face when she takes your order is a vital part of our image" - (can you beleive Mr。 Kroc called this in 1970s?)"Many young people emerge from college unprepared to hold down a steady job or to cook or do housework, and it makes them depressed。 No Wonder!" - (AGAIN, can you beleive Mr。 Kroc called this in 1970s?) 。。。more

I already seen the movie, but always better and more detailed to listen to the full length story。Amazing Ray and what a sense of business and commitment。

My only knowledge of Ray Kroc came from the movie The Founder which apparently isn't quite true。 It made the founding brothers come across as poor, beat up, and broken。 Now, I don't expect Kroc to give an unbiased perspective of his story but it is an excellent picture of hard work, innovation, and something uniquely American。 I would recommend this book with the warning that it made me crave McDonald's the entire time I was reading it。 I guess I'm going to have to get a diet book or something a My only knowledge of Ray Kroc came from the movie The Founder which apparently isn't quite true。 It made the founding brothers come across as poor, beat up, and broken。 Now, I don't expect Kroc to give an unbiased perspective of his story but it is an excellent picture of hard work, innovation, and something uniquely American。 I would recommend this book with the warning that it made me crave McDonald's the entire time I was reading it。 I guess I'm going to have to get a diet book or something about vegetables to read next。 。。。more

Excellent reading。 I really eat this book in 2 - 3 days。 It's full of enjoyable stories and anecdotes。 I love the way Ray has a direct approach to tell the things without BS。 Very recommended for everyone who's looking for inspiration。 Excellent reading。 I really eat this book in 2 - 3 days。 It's full of enjoyable stories and anecdotes。 I love the way Ray has a direct approach to tell the things without BS。 Very recommended for everyone who's looking for inspiration。 。。。more

Kroc does a better job than any other business phenom I've seen express the mundane of success。 It's fascinating to see the emphasis he plays on people development, thought processes, seizing opportunity and focusing on perfection of the fundamentals。 Although this is a bit of an exaggeration, the book almost feels like an Olympic athlete talking about their training regimen ad nauseam。 I feel like some if it is because it's McDonalds, not Apple。 They didn't over innovate。 In fact, he Kroc didn' Kroc does a better job than any other business phenom I've seen express the mundane of success。 It's fascinating to see the emphasis he plays on people development, thought processes, seizing opportunity and focusing on perfection of the fundamentals。 Although this is a bit of an exaggeration, the book almost feels like an Olympic athlete talking about their training regimen ad nauseam。 I feel like some if it is because it's McDonalds, not Apple。 They didn't over innovate。 In fact, he Kroc didn't even think of McDonalds。 He just saw the opportunity and executed relentlessly。 My only complaints on the book are 1) It goes off on tangents sometimes that really don't add a lot of reader value 2) It bounces around a bit。 。。。more

That Ray Kroc is a very interesting guy, and the story (rather one-sided, but fair enough really) of the rise of McDonald's is fascinating。 That Ray Kroc is a very interesting guy, and the story (rather one-sided, but fair enough really) of the rise of McDonald's is fascinating。 。。。more

The biggest takeaway for me was that McDonald's was a real estate play more than anything else。 I was in business school studying business model innovation and strategy at the time of reading, so it makes sense this really stayed with me。 The biggest takeaway for me was that McDonald's was a real estate play more than anything else。 I was in business school studying business model innovation and strategy at the time of reading, so it makes sense this really stayed with me。 。。。more

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence, talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent。 Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb。 Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts。 Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent”。3。5/5

I have mixed feelings about this book。 The beginning was really entertaining as it talked about ray Kroc’s life story but after that it went downhill with some nice moments here and there。 Learned a thing or two about the fast food business。

This is the story of a great American businessman, a capitalist, and an incredible salesman and visionary。 Ray Kroc is a true workaholic, and he is not a role model in any other area of his life, especially when it comes to relationships (he divorced his first two wives and is still clearly bitter about former competitors, bosses, and employees, who he calls out by name in the book)。 As he says in the book, the important things in his life are God, family, and McDonald's, in reverse order。 Compa This is the story of a great American businessman, a capitalist, and an incredible salesman and visionary。 Ray Kroc is a true workaholic, and he is not a role model in any other area of his life, especially when it comes to relationships (he divorced his first two wives and is still clearly bitter about former competitors, bosses, and employees, who he calls out by name in the book)。 As he says in the book, the important things in his life are God, family, and McDonald's, in reverse order。 Compared to Phil Knight in Shoe Dog and his emphasis on relationships, Ray Kroc comes across as a bit of a one-dimensional character in his own autobiography。This book is a bit outdated (it was published in the 1970s), but it has some fascinating perspective on the birth of fast food in the U。S。 As should be expected by one of America's greatest salesmen, the last 10% of the book is essentially a pitch to get people to sign up to become McDonald's franchisees。 。。。more

This is not the story of the making of McDonald's; it's the story of Ray Kroc。 This book doesn't work because he's unlikeable。 There's too much personal opinion and boring financial nitty gritty in here and not enough product development or weird/fun/interesting info about Ronald McDonald and the Hamburglar。 And Ray, I cannot stress this enough, nobody cares about how you came to buy the San Diego Padres。 This is not the story of the making of McDonald's; it's the story of Ray Kroc。 This book doesn't work because he's unlikeable。 There's too much personal opinion and boring financial nitty gritty in here and not enough product development or weird/fun/interesting info about Ronald McDonald and the Hamburglar。 And Ray, I cannot stress this enough, nobody cares about how you came to buy the San Diego Padres。 。。。more
